The template serves as a centralised stakeholder information repository, ensuring project teams can monitor their engagement strategies.
A Stakeholder Register Template is a vital project management tool designed to identify and categorise project stakeholders systematically. Using an Excel sheet, project managers can record stakeholders’ requirements, expectations, engagement classification, interest, influence, and more. This organised approach ensures that project teams clearly understand who their stakeholders are and how they impact the project. For those looking to build on these fundamentals, explore our range of project management courses to develop the skills needed to manage complex projects with confidence.
The template is particularly valuable for managing stakeholder engagement effectively. By classifying stakeholders based on their level of interest and influence, project managers can prioritise communication and engagement strategies. This classification helps in creating tailored engagement plans that address the specific needs and expectations of different stakeholders, ultimately contributing to the project’s success.
Furthermore, the Stakeholder Register Template serves as a centralised repository of stakeholder information, ensuring that project teams can consistently monitor and adapt their engagement strategies as stakeholders’ needs evolve throughout the project lifecycle. This proactive management approach fosters stronger stakeholder relationships and enhances overall project outcomes. You can find further guidance and resources on this and related topics across the IPM blog.

Here, each stakeholder’s contact information is captured, such as phone, email, fax and address, if necessary.

This represents the project expectation from each stakeholder.
There are two basic types of stakeholders: internal and external stakeholder. As an example, an internal stakeholder is someone who is part of the organisation and is responsible for the project. External stakeholders are those outside of the organisation, but still affected by the project.
This column will identify the role the stakeholder has in the project. That can be a team member, project sponsor, regulatory authority and so forth. Understanding how to work effectively across these roles is a core focus of our course in leading and negotiating for project success, which equips project managers with the skills to build alignment and drive results.
