Balfour Beatty is looking to make a critical senior leadership hire and appoint a Project Director to lead the delivery of the Teesdock Road Substation project, based in the North East of England.
The role sits within Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution business, a delivery partner to National Grid on the £8bn Electricity Transmission Partnership, responsible for delivering major high‑voltage substation infrastructure across England and Wales.
The Project Director is a high‑impact, end‑to‑end leadership role, with full accountability for the successful delivery of one of Balfour Beatty’s largest substation projects to date. Reporting into the Operations Director, the role will lead a large, multidisciplinary team and own all aspects of programme, commercial performance, safety, stakeholder management and delivery strategy from mobilisation through to completion.
Proven experience at senior management level
Sound track record of the management and the delivery of technically complex
Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
Proven track record in tendering and managing complex projects, including sub-contractors
Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and financial control
Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems
Comfortable with ambiguity, able to tease out sensitive issues and lead cross-functional teams towards solutions
Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
A record of a solutions-based approach to problem solving
Able to undertake work in high-pressure situations
The ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team
