Company Overview

This leading financial institution is preparing its organisation-wide response to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s upcoming regulation on merchant card payment costs and surcharging, with significant implications across its acquiring, pricing, and merchant value propositions.

Role Overview

Project Director SME knowledge of Payments & Acquiring to support our Sydney based client define and deliver the changes required on the back of RBA’s upcoming regulation on Merchant Card Payment Costs & Surcharging.

This role is to support their Go to Market teams response to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) merchant card payments costs and surcharging regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end planning, execution, and reporting for the merchant card payments costs and surcharging response, ensuring all deliverables align with RBA requirements and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain the project plan, milestones, risks, and dependencies, driving cross-functional alignment and proactively resolving delivery blockers.
  • Oversee merchant impact assessments and transition planning from current surcharging practices to a ban on surcharging and related price adjustments across products.
  • Maintain a clear view of the competitive landscape and regulatory changes in merchant solutions, reinforcing and refining merchant value propositions.
  • Support development of customer-facing communications and partner with Change Management to design internal training for frontline teams and external communication plans with Go to Market.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels across Product, Product Marketing, Acquisition, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Partnerships, Risk, and frontline bankers.

Skills And Experience

10+ years’ experience in project or program management within financial services, specifically in merchant acquiring, leading regulatory or compliance-driven initiatives. Strong knowledge of payments acquiring, merchant services and pricing, card schemes, and Australian regulatory frameworks. Proven track record of managing complex cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment. Strong understanding of merchant impacts in card payments and ability to translate regulatory changes into practical business and customer outcomes. Results-oriented self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to influence at Director level.
