Why did I Pursue IPMA Certification?

Project management has become a global profession, with project management established as the pre-eminent method for implementing change in the world with the project, programme and portfolio managers leading the way.

The professionals of tomorrow will work in distributed environments with overlapping and often conflicting stakeholder interests.

The burden has never been higher for these individuals to produce measurable results on time, on budget, within the scope and while meeting the quality criteria. They also need to demonstrate that their skill set is at the cutting edge of the needs of the profession.

The internationally acclaimed IPMA 4-level certification system supports the growth of individuals and of organisations as they grapple with increasingly competitive project environments.

It provides a comprehensive inventory of technical, behavioural and strategic competencies that an individual needs to have or to develop to successfully master the project, the programme or the portfolio that the individual is tasked to manage.

Why did I Pursue IPMA Certification?

I have spent over 20 years working in the construction industry, with over 10 of those years in a project management capacity. The achievement of the IPMA Level B - Certified Senior Project Manager was important to me because it helped me evaluate, reinforce and enhance existing project management practices that were not aligned with a formal project management methodology.

In addition, it has provided me with the knowledge to develop and continuously improve fully integrated project management systems, processes and tools that are effective on complex projects, as well as the credibility to lead on their implementation and roll-out. I also believe the attainment of this qualification will resonate with prospective clients for projects where I am the proposed project manager.
