IPMA Celebrates 50 Years Promoting Project Management Competence

The 50th Anniversary of IPMA; the world's first professional Project Management association

As the first global project management association, the creation of IPMA was a milestone in the history of project management. Based on a unique vision in which professionals can dedicate their own free time for volunteering and contribute to project management development. The idea of IPMA has been accepted globally, and today, it is represented by over sixty national associations.

During the last 50 years, IPMA has made tremendous contributions in developing project management competencies and bringing people and nations closer together and sharing positive ideas across the community at large.

The 25th Anniversary of the Institute of Project Management Ireland

Celebrating 25 years of promoting education, certification and member services in project management is a major milestone for the Institute.

It makes little sense for any country, large or small, to pursue a purely national approach. International collaboration allows countries to share the costs and risks of tackling common project management challenges. A country cannot claim to have a “world-class” project management system unless that system is firmly embedded within the global system. That is why we are firmly embedded in the IPMA family.

The 50th Anniversary of IPMA is just the beginning. There is a lot to do to reach our aspirational vision of “promoting competence throughout society to enable a world in which all projects succeed.”

To celebrate these anniversaries, a project team worked with IPMA Member Associations to produce a historical book which we would like to share with you.

You can find a summary of each IPMA Member Association; it makes for interesting reading to see the diversity of each nation's top Project and Program Management associations. You can find Ireland on page 71 (page 74 of the pdf file).
