Purpose of the Role
The principal objectives as a Portfolio Manager is to manage onshore Fixed Income funds, with the focus to deliver outstanding performance for clients through investment decisions and innovative investment ideas within a team orientated, collegiate environment. This role will be display strong leadership and be a part of and contribute towards strategy and process discussions. You will be actively contributing to the development of the overall product strategy for the fixed income franchise and being responsible for building and marketing new fund share classes in response to clients’ reverse inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
To launch and run a fixed income portfolioContribute to both rates and credit strategies, and expected to be an active team player in the fixed income teamFocus intensely on companies and travel extensively with credit analyst colleagues to make frequent company visitsPlay a leading role in the regular investment meetings between portfolio managers and analysts regarding macro, rates and creditContribute high quality ideas and exercise independence of mind in reaching investment conclusions Relish involvement in intense debate on macro, rates, and credits; acknowledge market views but remain independent of themFocus on investment performance to deliver outstanding performance for existing clients and on existing assetsBuild and foster good collaborative relationships and communication between portfolio managers and analysts in the investment team and in the wider business.
Experience And Qualifications Required
10+ years experience of working in investment markets with 3+ years as a Portfolio ManagerA strong understanding and experience of investing in onshore bond market for both rates and creditHave a good, sustained track record of investment performance Willingness to manage a variety of strategies across the risk and credit rating spectrumKnowledge of the institutional and wholesale business of asset management. Positive existing Client and Consultant relationships or ratings will be an advantageMust have an close alignment with the global investment and cultural values of FidelityMay have worked in a successful local or global investment house; whatever the precise background, must adhere to the highest global standards of investment practice, displaying total integrityUnderstand that the Portfolio Manager is at the centre of the investment process, with a good deal of discretion over the credits and weightings in a portfolio and comfortable in an environment where there is no “house view” or model portfolioDisplay a continuing passion for analysis and investment; eager, questioning and persistentEnjoy “rolling sleeves up” and undertaking every aspect of the investment roleHave the wish and predisposition to work well in a fast-paced environmentEnthusiasm to mentor analysts and help them develop their professional investment skillsStand as a role model, as an investor and senior executive, displaying strong leadership, communication, influencing and communication skillsHigher education with post graduate CFA qualification would be ideal
