National Portfolio Manager

About the Opportunity

This senior leadership role provides strategic leadership and direction for underwriting portfolios nationally to drive sustainable growth and profitability. The role is accountable for setting underwriting standards, managing and developing underwriting teams, underwriting complex and high value risks, and providing specialist technical advice.

The role plays a key part in building strong broker and stakeholder relationships, influencing portfolio outcomes, and ensuring alignment with underwriting governance, risk appetite, and industry best practice.

Responsibilities

  • Own national portfolio performance, delivering sustainable growth, profitability, and portfolio optimization in line with the agreed business plan.
  • Set and execute portfolio strategy, including risk appetite, underwriting priorities, and pricing direction across new business and renewals.
  • Maintain accountability for underwriting governance, ensuring consistent application of frameworks, delegated authorities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and decision oversight on complex, high value, or nonstandard underwriting risks.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying emerging risks, underperforming segments, and opportunities, and lead corrective actions to protect P&L outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong senior broker and internal stakeholder relationships to support profitable growth and market outcomes.
  • Lead and uplift underwriting capability across the portfolio, role modeling strong risk discipline, collaboration, and performance accountability.

About You

To be successful as a National Portfolio Manager you will have:

  • Proven ability to set and execute portfolio strategy, balancing growth, profitability, and risk outcomes at a national level.
  • Deep technical underwriting capability, with credibility to lead complex, high-value, or non-standard risk decisions.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting governance, delegated authorities, and regulatory requirements, with sound escalation and decision discipline.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with senior brokers and internal stakeholders to influence outcomes and support profitable growth.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead, develop, and uplift underwriting capability, fostering strong performance and accountability culture.
